2018 GATHERING OF FRIENDS

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1.What is the Gathering of Friends (the “GOF”)?

The Gathering of Friends is the annual fundraiser dinner/auction to benefit The Chapel School.  The evening begins with cocktails and an opportunity to mingle with other parents and staff while perusing the silent auction items.  During the cocktails, there are different food stations representing a variety of global cuisines set up around the room.  A full sit-down dinner follows during which the live auction is conducted.  This year there will be a live band and dancing.

2.When is the GOF?

In 2018, we will be celebrating the 18th anniversary of the GOF on Friday, March 16th

3.Who attends the Gathering of Friends?

Parents, friends, faculty and staff of The Chapel School as well as members, administration and staff of the Village Lutheran Church.

4.Where is it held?

In recent years, the GOF has been held at the Glen Island Harbour Club, 299 Weyman Ave., New Rochelle, NY 10805.

5.How are funds generated at the GOF used?

The proceeds from the GOF directly fund operations and programming (including improved security and technology (e.g., smart boards); drama club events; after school programming, etc.).

6.What’s new or different this year?

We have many new live and silent auction items, and this year will be a masquerade costume ball... stay tuned!

7.Is it black tie? Do I have to wear a costume?

Dressing up in a costume is optional. Festive cocktail attire suggested.

8.How much are the tickets?  What is included?

Ticket prices include open bar, hors d’oeuvre, dinner and dancing.

Benefactor tickets help underwrite the cost of the GOF. The support of Benefactors is crucial to the success of the event. Benefactors will be honored at a special cockatail party in early 2018.

Sustaining Benefactor, $400 per person

Supporting Benefactor, $300 per person

General Admission, $150 per person

9.Benefactor Party?

The Benefactor Party is usually held in advance of the Basket-Ball and GOF as a way of thanking those members of the community that have graciously agreed to underwrite the GOF.  There are two levels of Benefactor: Supporting and Sustaining. Benefactors are recognized on the event invitation and during the event.

10.What is the Basket-Ball?

The Basket-Ball is held on the Saturday, preceding the GOF (March 10, 2018). It is open to all our families and is a way for the children to join in on the fun.  Games, crafts, treats are set up around the school.  Smaller items such as an outing with the art teacher or lunch with a teacher, or products from local vendors are raffled off.  In addition, the larger Class Baskets are displayed – you can put a raffle in for these at the Basket-Ball but they will also be on display at the GOF and the final raffle will be conducted the evening of the GOF.  Amy Reid and Jamie Geier are this year's Basket-Ball coordinators.

11.What kind of items are included in the silent auction?

Silent auction items include gift certificates for local restaurants, cases of wine, unique jewelry pieces, sports memorabilia, spa experiences, etc.

12.What is the live auction?

Approximately 20 packages/experiences are reserved for the live auction which is conducted during the dinner portion of the evening.  Live auction items include one-of-a-kind experiences – travel, live entertainment, sporting events, etc.

13.What is Fund A Need?

Fund A Need is another donation opportunity for parents and friends of The Chapel School.  Rather than bid on a specific item or experience, participants can make a monetary donation directly to benefit The Chapel School programming such as technology or curriculum that would otherwise extend beyond our budget capabilities.

14.What is the e-journal?

In recent years, we have elected to forgo the expensive and resource intensive paper program in lieu of an E-Journal.  Families, friends, vendors, etc. can take out an E-Journal advertisement or announcement.  The E-Journal is an electronic program that runs on screens throughout the evening and is posted on the school’s website and also is displayed in the school following the event.

15.I’d like to go but we don’t know anyone to sit with?
